My life spans three countries and had steep ups and downs.

I'm thankful for all the lessons I learned and the people who helped me overcome challenges and grow.

The Gifts I Received

In Japan (my home country)

  • The Zen principle of being in the moment.

  • The Shinto (ancient Japanese spirituality) teaching of recognizing the divine in nature, people, and myself and purifying my mind to unite with sacredness.

  • Mindful art (tea ceremony, Ikebana flower arrangement, calligraphy) and connection with the beauty of the four seasons.

In Bali (where I raised my family)

  • Balinese philosophy of accepting and harmonizing duality (light creates shadow: Honor both).

  • The power of community: caring for each other and growing together.

  • Spiritual name: Surapsari is a heavenly dancer in a Balinese myth. I'm thankful for Ida Bagus Oka, a Balinese high priest who gave me the beautiful name.

In the U.S. (my adopted country)

  • My identity as a global citizen.

  • Personal power, courage, resilience, and a sense of purpose.

  • The joy of being one with the wild nature (backpacking, camping, and hiking).

The passing of my husband of twenty years shuttered my life. It was painful but opened me to deep love.

I found my life purpose and created a new life that is an expression of my values.

Helping others become more mindful, overcome their challenges, and create a rich, rewarding life is now my lifework.

I wish you much love, joy, and peace.
